Inverclyde Challenge

3 Scouts and 2 Explorer Scouts from the 73rd Group completed the Inverclyde Challenge in 5 hours and 45 minutes .The challenge is to climb up the 3 highest hills in Inverclyde, Dunrod, Creuch and Corlic Hills walking from each hill to the next. Kids Outdoors -Hikes Away

The Hikes Away badge continues to be popular with Scouts and Explorer Scouts from the 5th Group and 73rd Group recently undertaking hikes around the Greenock and Inverkip area. 30 scouts from the 73rd Group have now completed their 5 Hikes Away badge and are now working on their 10 Hikes Away. Some of the older scouts camped at the Glen Nevis camp site just outside Fort William. 73rd Group thanks their Group’s Scout Fellowship for their continued support with these events.

Kids Outdoors – West Highland Way

Kieran O’Hagan, a Beaver Scout in the 33rd Colony, along with his dad Liam (who assists with 33rd Scouts) along with Kieran’s Uncle Christopher walked the 96 miles of the West Highland Way from Milngavie to Fort William. Along the way Kieran faced various hardships including snow outside the tent, ice inside the tent and dad’s al fresco cooking (pretty much noodles morning noon and night). They raised several hundred pounds for the Group through sponsorship.

Kids Outdoors – Go Ape !

Scouts and Leaders from the 73rd enjoyed 4 exciting hours round the Go Ape high wire course at Aberfoyle. This included, rope bridges, Tarzan swings and Britain’s longest zip slide at 400m. A great day was had by all. A big thanks to Ian and Sharon Cairns for coming all the way from Newcastle and to Angus Munro for transport.

Silver Acorn Presentation

DC David McCallum wishes to thanks all who passed on their congratulations on his being awarded the Silver Acorn in this year’s St. George’s Day awards. He and Carol had a memorable weekend at Windsor.

Leapmoor Pipe Band

5 members of the band enjoyed playing with the Centenary Band at the West Lothian District Founders’ Day Service and dedication of new colours on Sunday 20th April in the magnificent setting of St. Michaels Church and Linlithgow Palace. As always anyone wishing to join the band should come along on Sunday nights to the Westburn Church Youth Hall at 6.30pm for tuition.
