Community Challenge

23 scouts from the 32nd visited Greenock Police station on Monday night. The scouts were given a tour of the station including CCTV suite, cells, ID room and the trip was rounded off with a visit to the garage to look at different police vehicles from jet skis to cars. The scouts then got the opportunity to have a play around with one of the cars and its sirens and lights. Many thanks to Paul and Andy for their time. For their next part of the Community challenge the scouts are going to the Fire station in May to do the Fire Safety badge.

Cub Scouts from the 5th Group visited Port Glasgow Fire Station . Thanks to Ian Kennedy and all of White Watch for a very interesting visit. The Cubs thoroughly enjoyed climbing into the Fire Engine, trying on the helmets and, of course, using the hose!

Out and About

The 6th Group were at Everton for their Group Camp. The scouts hiked over 20km on a loop from Gourock over the moors past Shielhill Caves. On their return there was an impressive display of moviemaking using lego and stopmotion, to complete their photography badge.

Well done to the two scouts who managed to set up camp on top of the minibus as part of their Zodiac Award.

The cub pack was also busy with activities: exploring Everton while orienteering, visiting the Cornalees nature trail and singing (loudly) at the

campfire . The leaders would like to thank the staff at Cornalees for use of the facilities, the Explorers for a great campfire and Kieran for the apple pie!

Hikes Away

A party of Scouts, Cubs and adults from the 10th Group completed some more hikes recently. Bob Lynch has been running a series of hikes in preparation for his Sponsored West Highland Way Hike for Radios for the Blind in April. Hikes were held from Ardentinney to Carrick Castle and back to Ardentinney Beach then last weekend from Glen Loin to Coiregrogain. Well done to Cub Scout Nathan Mitchell who has completed his 7th hike for the Hikes Away award.

22 scouts from the 73rd Scout Troop continued with their Hikes Away badge now working towards Stage 5. Completed a hike from St Kenneth’s Primary School, up Auchmountain Glen, past the golf course and continued until they reached the top of Corlic Hill. After lunch and a Wide Game or two the afternoon was finished off by continuing over Burnhead Moor back to St Kenneth’s School.
A big thanks to June Tannock and Stephen Quigley for their Fellowship support.

Outdoors and Outdoors Plus Challenges
22 scouts from the 32nd Group spend a full weekend at Everton improving their camping skills and working towards their Outdoor and Outdoor plus challenges. After a night of indoor training on the Friday the scouts moved outside on the Saturday to put the training into practice and put together a proper working campsite. After an enjoyable night by the campfire half of the group spent the night under canvas while the other half spend the night in bivouacs. The camp wasounded off with a session of archery where Caitlin Daisley finished her master of arms badge.
