Congratulations !
Greenock and District Scouts congratulate DC David McCallum on being awarded the Silver Acorn in this year’s St. George’s Day Awards. The Silver Acorn is awarded for specially distinguished service for a period of not less than twenty years.
We wish David and Carol well as they attend the presentation ceremony at Windsor this weekend.
Out and About - Parachuting
Three Explorer Scouts from Inverkip’s Ardgowan Explorer Unit successfully completed parachute jumps last week. Jordan McBride, Graeme Clark and Mark Percival each jumped tandem from 10,000ft and enjoyed a 30 second free fall before their chutes were deployed. The boys had pitched their tents and camped out on the airfield and waited all weekend for a break in the weather before finally completing their jumps between 5pm and 6pm on Sunday evening. They’re now planning a return trip in August which may even see them earning their Parachutist badges.
Other Groups were active over the Easter holidays with activities reported as follows –
33rd Group
A team of hardy scouts, explorers and leaders from the 33rd Group experienced sub zero temperatures under canvas at their ‘Back to Basics’ camp at Everton. Special congratulations go to the three 11 year old first time campers who remained cheery thoughout and completed their activity badges.
70th Group
The 70th Scouts got their Hikes Away programme underway with a night hike to Everton followed by an overnight stay and a day hike on Bute. Both the Cub Pack and the Scouts are planning to complete 5 Hikes Away by the end of the session !
Beavers Cinema Trip
239 Beaver Scouts and leaders attended the Waterfront Cinema to see ‘Horton Hears a Who’ and ‘Game Plan’. Our thanks go to Mr McNeil and his very patient staff. A wonderful time was had by all.
