Welcome

Sunrise Day

On 1st August 1907, Scouting’s Founder Robert Baden-Powell sounded his kudu horn on Brownsea Island at 08.00 to open the very first experimental Scout camp for 20 boys. Today Scouting is a million times bigger, with 28 million members in 216 countries and territories and throughout the world.

Scouting has a vital and ever growing part to play in the life of the individuals of the Community and of the Nation. We who are entrusted with this task should take fresh heart and encouragement from the record of the past one hundred years of Scouting and strive in the years that lie ahead to bring the best possible Scouting to the greatest possible number of young people in our District.

The 2007 World Scout Task Force planned a series of events to promote the values, benefits and achievements of Scouting to the world. These events and activities for the Centenary of Scouting have followed the single theme – 2007 : One World - One Promise.

On the 1st August 2007, all Scouts throughout the world participated in Scouting’s Sunrise, an activity starting at 08.00 in each country in the World Organisation of the Scout Movement to mark the dawn of the new century of Scouting. At Brownsea Island, the campsite woke to the sound of the same kudo horn that Baden-Powell used to waken his original camp.

Our local Scouts have enjoyed the Centenary Year by participating in many events locally, thoughout Scotland and at the World Scout Jamboree at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex.
